To apply for admission
In order to apply for admission into any of the programs at the School of Engineering, it will be necessary to verify that you meet the admission requirements.

Once you have verified that you meet the admission criteria for the program you wish to join you can follow one of two options,
i) Degree Seeking Admission:
$40 Application fee Submit transcripts and/or test scores
Determine if you are eligible for financial aid
Meet the application deadline 7/1 for Fall admission 11/1 for Spring admission 5/1 for Summer admission
ii) Non-degree Seeking admission
No application fee
No transcripts or test scores
No deadlines
No financial aid available
Requirements for Undergraduate Degree Seeking Admissions
• Official transcripts means Sealed, unopened envelopes are used, mailed
preferably from the high school, GED center, testing agency or college
• UAA will not accept copies of your transcripts – they must come directly from
the educational institution

To qualify for most programs at the School of Engineering, you need to demonstrate that you have met certain pre-requisites.

Applying for admission
Student Status – Current or former students
You have taken classes within the University of Alaska system in the past
You have an eight-digit UA student ID
You can log into UA Online with your current information
Student Status – New Students
Have never taken classes within the University of Alaska System
Will obtain the eight-digit UA student ID when applying for admission
Must create a new login and PIN to get started

• As a current or former student, log in to the secured area, providing a
username (eight-digit UA ID) and password.
• If password is forgotten or lost, follow the prompts to reset.
• If you do not know your student ID, follow the ‘look up your ID’ prompt to
find this number.

• To continue, click on ‘Student Services, Financial Aid & Account Information’
• To continue, click on ‘Admissions’
• To continue, click on the ‘New’ button to create a new application
• Select your intended program of study (degree or otherwise) and Campus
(Anchorage or other)
• Select your intended semester of study and click on ‘Fill out application’ to
continue
• There will be a checklist with all the components required to complete the
application, once completed, click on ‘Application is complete’
• To submit your application, you will require a debit or credit card to pay for
your application.
Note: you will need to make your payment for application within 21 days, after which your application will be deleted.
Once you have made an application, please check back on your admission status, this process can take 4-8 weeks.

Registering for courses:
• Check on the paper schedule for course offerings.
• These are available at Enrollment Services or available online in PDF format.
• Log in to UA Online using your UA ID and password, click on ‘Student
Services, Financial Aid & Account Information’ click on ‘Register/Add/Drop
Classes’
Note that course registration opens in November for the Spring semester, and in April for the Summer and Fall semesters
• Early registration ensures that you take the classes you require for the
semester in question
• Click on the submit changes button to continue
You might receive registration errors under special circumstances, some of these errors are:
• Closed Section – course is full
• Department Approval – call the particular academic department for
information
• Time conflict – you have registered for more than one class for the same
time period
• CORQ_Req – you need to register for another course (typically a lab for a
science course)
If you encounter an error message, click on OK to view an error and take the appropriate corrective measures.

• Viewing your current student schedule allows you to check and verify your
registration status.
• Click on Look-up classes to add, select the campus and program of your
choice and click on ‘Class Search’ at the bottom of the page
• Once classes have been selected, click on the ‘Submit Changes’ button to
update your record

• You can only complete your FAFSA once per academic year
• You can submit your FAFSA to as many schools as you would like
• You can begin filling your FAFSA as early as January each year, but February
is recommended since many people do not fill out their tax returns before
February.
• Submitting your FAFSA late in the year typically results in delays in financial
aid at any university
• Submitting a late FAFSA could jeopardize your eligibility for some grants or
scholarships
• Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov and follow the prompts, call 1-800-4-FEDAID for
assistance
To apply for financial aid at UAA make sure to complete the steps below.
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Apply for degree seeking admission
• Apply for scholarships
• Calculate your expenses for the school year
• Receive your financial aid award letter and respond to requests for
information
The FAFSA must be completed and submitted online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
You can sign your FAFSA using one of two methods:
i) PIN – request a PIN online at www.pin.ed.gov Your PIN will be emailed to
you within 3 business days (best method of signing the FAFSA)
ii) Signature Page – print off the last page of the online FAFSA application,
sign it and mail it in (least preferred method)
FAFSA Status - Dependent vs. Independent Students
If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you are an independent student
• Are you 24 years old or over?
• Are you attending graduate or professional school? (NOT undergraduate
bachelor, associate or certificate programs)
• Do you have legal dependants?
• Are you currently married?
• Are you a veteran of the military?
If you answered “no” to all the questions, you are a dependent student
