Professor Davis served on the UAA Faculty Development Grant Committee. He is also a trustee for the Sidney Henderson, Jr. Scholarship, sponsored by the Geomatics Department. He chaired the School and Community Relations Committee for the College of Career and Vocational Education (now the UAA Community and Technical College) for two years, and has also participated in CCVE In Services and Faculty Convocations and served on the UAA Nominations Committee. Within his department, Professor Davis has served as an advisor for students, team-taught the Land Surveying in Training Exam Seminar (fall semester) for three years, and developed several new courses and computer programs for the new Geomatics program. He has also secured new equipment and software for use by the department through grants and donations, and was instrumental in achieving accreditation for the Surveying and Mapping Program (now the Department of Geomatics) from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in 1995.

Professor Davis is a Regional Director and past president of the Alaska Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). He is a former president, vice president, and secretary of the Executive Board for the Alaska Surveying and Mapping Conference (ASMC), and former chair of the Conferences Photogrammetry Short Course Committee. He served three years as program chair of the annual ASMC in Anchorage, and was the conference chair for the 2000 ASMC.

Professor Davis has lent his expertise to mapping and software-based navigation projects for the Arctic Orienteering Club and has written a Homologation Program, complete with computer graphics for the Anchorage Nordic Ski Association. He has also been a volunteer with the KAKM fund drive and a den leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He is a musician who has played in jazz bands, marching bands, symphonic bands and orchestras, and he currently performs at services and special events at his church. His major instruments are the trumpet and the fluegelhorn.

Professor Davis has also presented a demonstration of an IMA photogrammetric stereo plotter for an elementary school from Fairbanks.
